Congratulations to Amy Yu, PhD, recipient of the 2023 Karen Doppke Award for Women in Medical Physics! Dr. Yu visited the Mass General of Radiation Oncology on Thursday, October 19. and gave a lecture titled "From translational research to clinical implementation" exploring the process of translating research findings into concrete practices to improve workflow efficiency, treatment quality, and the overall safety of the clinical environment.
Thank you, Dr. Yu, for a wonderful visit, and congratulations on this much-deserved honor!
About the Award: The Karen Doppke Award for Women in Medical Physics was established in honor of Karen P. Doppke, MS, DABR, FAAPM, FACR, for her many contributions to the field of medical physics during her illustrious 50-year career. Mid-career, female-identifying, physicists are sought from all areas of medical physics, and evaluated for their contributions to clinical practice, innovation, education, mentorship, leadership, and professional community service.
About the 2023 Winner: Dr. Amy Yu is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Medical Physics Division in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University. As a therapy medical physicist providing clinical service at an academic center, her passion is the clinical implementation of novel techniques to improve the quality and safety of radiation treatment. She has led the development and clinical implementation of major projects that improved patient safety and treatment quality. Currently, she is working on standardizing workflows, technology, and utilization across our regional network of cancer clinics. As a result of standardization, patients will receive the same level of high-quality personalized care regardless of their residence, reducing travel time and patient psychological and financial stress.
