Yi Wang, PhD, Jason Efstathiou, MD, DPhil, and colleagues have validated a CT-based deep learning model that provides automated contouring when planning radiation therapy for prostate cancer patients who receive radiopaque hydrogel spacers. The study, published in Medical Physics, reports the evaluation of two CT-based deep-learning models for automated contouring, the second of which has been used at Mass General and three network hospitals since January 2021. It provides standardized contouring, promotes consistency across the network, and can shorten treatment turnaround time.
