Matthew Jacobson (BWH): Exploring Several Applications of Combined kV-MV Imager Data to On-Treatment Cone Beam CT
Tuesday 15 September 2020, 12:00pm - 01:00pm

Historically, external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) systems have used dedicated on-board kV-imagers for 3D imaging purposes, while the MV-imager, comprised of the LINAC and EPID,  has been reserved for treatment and beam’s eye view 2D imaging tasks. More recently, however,  EBRT systems have emerged with LINACs able to emit lower energy beams (2.5 MV) at lower exposure levels, leading to on-board MV-imagers increasingly capable of cone beam CT (CBCT) performance. The availability of two CBCT imagers on an external beam system opens a number of possibilities for improved imaging and treatment workflow for EBRT. This talk will focus on three such applications, namely scan time reduction, field of view enlargement, and metal artifact reduction. Recent efforts to facilitate such applications using multi-layer MV detectors and edge-preserving poly-energetic correction methods will be discussed.
