Christian Guthier (MGH): Recent developments to improve clinical workflows in radiation therapy
Tuesday 16 June 2020, 12:00pm - 01:00pm

In brachytherapy, treatment planning can be a time-consuming process and usually depends on the experience and skills of the planner. My recent work focuses on the development of novel optimization approaches as well as the utilization of technologies such as 3D scanning and 3D printing to automate treatment planning.  I will show how those methods have the potential to standardize and streamline clinical workflows.

In the second part I will focus on the dosimetric validation of an artificial intelligence encapsulated knowledge transfer across medical domains applied to heart contouring for treatment planning in external beam radiation therapy. This retrospective dosimetry study included 2867 patients treated for breast cancer at our institution between 2016-2018.

Both studies will demonstrate the feasibility of auto-contouring and auto-planning in radiation therapy that can potentially change clinical workflows in the future.
